Directions for Petition Circulators

  1. Only voters registered in the 8th Congressional District may sign this petition. Registered voters need not have voted in a previous Republican Primary to sign the petition and may even sign the petition if they have voted in a Democratic Primary or have never voted in a previous primary at all.
  2. You must personally witness all signatures made on this petition. You may sign your own petition, as long as you are registered to vote in Illinois.
  3. You may not circulate petitions for more than one political party.
  4. Petitions with fewer than 10 names do count. If you are not able to fill a petition, send in a partial list. Each name counts.
  5. Petition signors ARE PERMITTED to sign petitions for more than one REPUBLICAN candidate, but MAY NOT sign petitions for more than one political party.
  6. If you learn a signature is not valid, do not worry. Bad signatures do not knock out other good signatures or invalidate an entire petition. HOWEVER, known bad signatures MUST be brought to the attention of the campaign, so that they can be officially stricken. A circulator who recklessly and routinely disregards the signature gathering rules MAY have an entire petition sheet stricken even though some signatures are valid. Please place a small ‘X’ on the line where the bad signature is located. The ‘X’ should be placed directly to the right of the line number.
  7. You must sign as the circulator of the petition before a Notary Public licensed in Illinois and the Notary Public must affix his/her seal or stamp. Most banks and libraries will notarize free of charge. The circulator’s statement must indicate your age, residence address, and citizenship.
  8. You must be a United States citizen, over the age of 18, and not a felon to circulate petitions.
  9. DO NOT number the Petition page.  We will do that at campaign headquarters. Do not make marks or highlight text on the Petition page.
  10. Please return petitions no later than December 19, 2011.  Please mail all completed petitions to: Joe Walsh for Congress, 830 W. Illinois Rte. 22 #B56, Lake Zurich, IL 60047.

  3. You must sign your name as you are registered to vote. For example, William E. Jones, not Bill Jones.
  4. DO NOT use ditto marks for any part of an address.
