Lake Zurich: Joe Walsh, candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 8th District, is asking that the Gurnee Memorial to Veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars be completed on an expedited basis. Walsh is responding to concerns by veterans and local Gurnee citizens that this project, approved by the citizens and local government of Gurnee, has recently been delayed or halted.

“The memorial to veterans like PFC Geoffrey Morris who have lost their lives should be a priority for every citizen and elected official alike. These men and women have lost their lives protecting our freedoms. We owe them every consideration. I know that Congressional candidates are often advised not to get involved in local issues but I am weighing in on this issue to offer whatever moral support I can to this cause and this memorial. It’s the right thing to do.” said Walsh.

“As our servicemen and women embark on their tours of duty overseas they need to know that we, here on the home front, are thinking of them and honoring them. There should be no controversy or hesitation when it comes to acting on a project that honors our veterans. I encourage everyone in and around Gurnee to get involved with the Memorial’s support group, Citizens United to Build the Iraq/Afghanistan Memorial,” said Walsh.
